Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect
Account information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and authentication credentials. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from your Google account.
Content you upload: Famli stores the documents, photos, letters, audio recordings, notes, and other materials you add to your family archive. This content is processed by AI to extract text, people, places, events, and relationships.
Usage data: We collect standard server logs including IP addresses, browser type, and pages visited to maintain service reliability and security.
Payment information: If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your credit card number. We receive your Stripe customer ID, subscription status, and billing history.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Famli service
- To process your uploaded content using AI (Google Gemini) for text extraction, entity recognition, embedding generation, and knowledge extraction
- To enable AI-powered search and chat within your family archive
- To manage your account, billing, and family memberships
- To send transactional emails (account verification, billing receipts)
3. AI Processing
Famli uses Google Gemini AI models to process your content. Your documents, notes, and audio recordings are sent to Google's API for extraction, transcription, and analysis. This processing happens on demand and the content is not used to train AI models. Google's API terms apply to this processing.
AI-generated outputs (extracted text, entities, relationships, embeddings) are stored in your Famli account and are subject to the same privacy protections as your uploaded content.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, including:
- Amazon S3 for uploaded files and derived artifacts
- Amazon DynamoDB for structured data (families, documents, people, relationships)
- Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL for search and retrieval indexes
- Amazon Cognito for authentication
All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256). Each family's data is strictly isolated at the application level — no one outside your family can access your archive.
5. Third-Party Services
- Google (Gemini API, OAuth): AI processing and optional sign-in
- Stripe: Payment processing for paid plans
- Amazon Web Services: Cloud infrastructure and authentication
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual documents, notes, and stories at any time. Soft-deleted items are retained for 30 days before permanent removal.
You can delete your entire account at any time from the Account settings. Account deletion permanently removes all your data including uploaded content, extracted knowledge, search indexes, and authentication records. Family archives where you are the sole owner will also be permanently deleted.
7. Family Collaboration
When you invite members to your family archive, they can view and contribute to all content in the archive. Family members share access to uploaded documents, AI chat, and the knowledge graph. Only the family owner can manage billing and invitations.
8. Cookies
Famli uses essential cookies and local storage for authentication tokens and session management. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or analytics cookies.
9. Children's Privacy
Famli is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice on the service. Your continued use of Famli after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
11. Contact
If you have questions about this privacy policy or your data, contact us at privacy@tryfamli.com.
